David Bean, President

David Bean

 David Bean, BSME / MBA, has extensive experience in engineering, manufacturing, marketing and business development with Corning Incorporated.  Bean recently managed Corning's optical components marketing for telecommunications, which included their market-leading laser business.  Mr. Bean's significant accomplishments include helping launch InfiniCor™ optical fiber (the industry's best-selling multimode fiber), recommending and supporting the successful acquisition of Lasertron Inc., and growing Corning's pump laser business to be the market share leader. Mr. Bean's son Isaac Bean stars in the PBS show Fetch with Ruff Ruffman.

Dr. John Callahan, Development

Dr. John Callahan, Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, now heads our development activities.  John comes to SemiNex with a long career as Director of Engineering for Xanoptix and Cubic Wafer.  John has helped pioneer semiconductor laser technology for telecommunications, datacom, and industrial applications.  Prior to joining SemiNex, Dr. Callahan was Director of Research and Development for Cubic Wafer where he lead the efforts to develop a high density packaging technology for the semiconductor industry.  From 2002 to 2005, Dr. Callahan was with Xanoptix, Inc.  While there he served as the Director of Research and Development where he oversaw the IC, Mechanical and Processing Engineering teams.  He was responsible for overseeing the development of a high density fiber coupled optical transceiver composed of 36 transmitter and 36 receiver channels integrated within a package containing the control circuitry and coupling optics.  Dr. Callahan was significantly involved with the design and fabrication of the optical components and the packaging technology.  Prior to Xanoptix, Dr. Callahan developed processing and packaging technology for VCSEL's, p-i-n detectors and other custom optoelectronics.

Ed McIntyre, Vice President of Sales and Marketing

Ed McIntyre, BSEE (Hofstra University), started his laser and optics sales career at Ortel Corporation back in 1990 responsible for CATV and Satcom for the Eastern US.  In 1998 Ed joined Multilink Technology Corporation as Director of Worldwide Sales increasing sales from $4 million to $135 million in three years promoting telecommunication products.  In 2002 Ed went to PD-LD, Inc. as Director of Marketing to help promote and cultivate new applications for Volume Bragg Gratings to be used on high power lasers in the defense and medical markets. In 2006 he became Director of North American Sales for QPC Lasers, Inc. growing the business 3X each year.  In 2008 Ed joined Sheaumann Lasers as Vice President of Sales.

Dan Pulver, Engineering

Dan Pulver, MME Optoelectronics, is responsible for semiconductor laser design and qualification.  He has more than 12 years experience in related product research and development and has demonstrated a strong track record in developing industry-leading high-power lasers.   Prior to founding SemiNex, Pulver was Staff Engineer for Corning Lasertron where he was responsible for several key laser diode improvements that lead to Lasertron's achievement of industry-leading performance for pump laser diodes.  Specifically, Pulver led the process improvements and qualification of laser chip and packaging efforts.  He coordinated fabrication processing, chip characterization, and reliability testing.  Mastery of these technical elements enabled Pulver to greatly improve the optical performance, reliability, and yield for Lasertron pump lasers.  Under Pulver's technical leadership, Corning Lasertron designed and qualified the highest power pump lasers in the world.

Don Freeman, Director

Dr. Don Freeman holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and recently retired as CEO of HydroCision, Inc, a privately owned company utilizing high-pressure fluidjet technology for surgical applications. Freeman remains on the board of HydroCision, as well as other boards.  Previously, Freeman was a founder and CEO of RadioMed Corporation (medical radioisotopes) and Intra-Sonix Inc. (ultrasound guided laser treatment for the prostate).  He was President of Xenotech Laboratories (tissue based implants), Davol (medical disposables), and Friesen International (hospital design firm).  Dr. Freeman was also Group VP of C.R. Bard (medical implants and systems) and was a Director of Corporate Development at Union Carbide.  Freeman has investment banking experience as a principal of Grayson & Associates Inc., and is adept at setting corporate strategy and raising private capital.
